The two-year-old pigeon, called New Kim, was to be sold for only 200 Euros, but a man from China put it up for auction at 1.6 million Euros.
Reuters news agency quoted a man named Kurt van Dwyer, whose family raised the pigeon, as saying they were shocked to hear the news.
Earlier, a four-year-old race pigeon was sold for a record 1.25 million Euros.
The four-year-old pigeon was named Armando and was called the Lewis Hamilton of Pigeons. However, by the time it was sold in 2019, he had retired from racing and had several baby pigeons.
