Medical Entry Test: A month ago, a change in the syllabus of the Medical Entry Test was a mental anguish for the students.
Nowadays these same children of Pakistan who have been working day and night for many months to realize their dream are very upset, because the entrance test for admission in medical college has become a headache for them.
According to the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) law, for the first time this year, students across the country will take the same entrance test. According to the law, everyone has to take this exam under the same curriculum, but the problem is that to date, the curriculum of each province and each institution has been different.
The Sahaga PMC has announced a date of November 15 for the exams. But students have less than one month . Students fear is genuine that they made preparation from old syllabus.
Statements regarding change in medical test.
The PMC issued a statement on October 5 informing the students, among other things, that NIMS, the National University of Medical Sciences, would conduct examinations for medical entrance tests and that all students would be issued by NIMS. Prepare according to the curriculum.
The decision drew reactions from all provinces due to possible differences in the curriculum topics. The PMC then announced on October 7 that no part or subject would be included in the Medical and Dental College entrance test that would be separate or additional to the existing curriculum at the provincial level.
The PMC statement clearly stated that no new syllabus would be issued for these examinations this year. However, the students expressed displeasure over the curriculum that was later released. According to him, this curriculum is actually the curriculum of the National University of Medical Sciences which has been copied.
Some claim that the government has made ‘politically motivated appointments’ within the PMC in an effort to bring medical education in Pakistan to international standards and that such decisions are being made in a hurry, which are being changed over and over again which is causing mental agony for the students.
What does the PMC have to say about the change in medical entry test?
PMC president Arshad Taqi says he is doing what was said in the law made before his arrival.
Talking to BBC, he said that according to the law of Pakistan Medical Commission, entrance exams from future doctors will be taken under Central Admission Test. According to him, before this, four to five universities used to take this entrance test.
According to Arshad Taqi, “Due to lack of time this year, the PMC could not prepare the syllabus for the entrance test itself, so they requested the National University of Medical Sciences to prepare the syllabus for them.”
“We have asked all boards and universities to send their representatives for consultations,” he added. After detailed consultation, the syllabus of all the institutes and boards has been included in this syllabus.
According to him, all the institutions in writing or by sending their representatives expressed satisfaction that the curriculum is appropriate and there is nothing in it that is different from their curriculum. ‘
The PMC president said Namaz had compiled an “ideal pamphlet” published online at his request.
He says, “If students see a subject in it that is not in their curriculum, they can point it out.”
Arshad Taqi said, “Right now, the whole process is constantly changing and improving, so if there are any issues, we will review them.”
He assured that now that the concerns of the students have come to his notice, he would seek information in this regard.
Arshad Taqi admitted that in the current situation he is under more stress than the students. According to him, some changes are beyond his control. However, he said, “These are our children too. So they should prepare what they have read. If the exam is something like that, it will be seen.
What is the law?
The PMC president said that although the entrance exams would be conducted under the Central Admission Test. However, provincial governments can formulate their own policy for admission to government medical colleges. ,They are free to decide on the basis of the marks obtained by the former parties and the quota.
Under the law, the provinces will announce the policy at least a year in advance, which will be verified by PMC on merit.
All institutions will provide details of medical education fees at least three months in advance and the PMC will also approve this.
For this year only, as private entities have not yet announced the policy, they will be admitted through the PMC. And it will be through the online portal. This will save students a separate fee for each college as they have the same platform for all colleges.
Regarding the Sindh government’s objection to the curriculum and entrance test procedure, PMC President Arshad Taqi said that the Sindh government had gone to court with two objections, after which he asked what the law says. Also issued a statement.
Arshad Taqi said that according to the new law, students have to get at least 60% marks in the entrance test for admission in medical colleges and Sindh is of the view that it should be increased to 33%. The court rejected his demand.
According to him, the second position of the Sindh government was that they would take their own entrance test within the province, on which the High Court has issued a restraining order and barred the Sindh government from conducting the test till the court proceedings.
According to Arshad Taqi, according to the law, every student who becomes a doctor in Pakistan must now take an exam under the PMC.
Frustration and anger among students
In Pakistan, ‘Boycott PMC Slabs’ has been trending on Twitter. Students say that the PMC is repeatedly changing their statements and causing them mental anguish.
“Our education system is playing with students’ careers and mental health,” said user Maryam Shaukat. If nothing can happen to you people, then abolish PMC.
Tagging the University of Health Sciences, he said, “Take note of this matter, otherwise you will create a mental patient, not a doctor.”
Arsalan Sad said, “Wow, what a system .. Thanks to the mental anguish of so many students, it is our so-called education system that puts students under stress every year. You are ruining the future of the students, it is inappropriate and unacceptable.
Muneeb Abid said, “Is this a common curriculum?” 20% share was included in the federal textbooks which is not in the textbooks of Punjab. How can we all prepare the rest of the curriculum in just 20 days?
A user named Tazeen Fatima resorted to meme to express her feelings. He said that first the PMC asked them to prepare the syllabus of Namaz as a guide, a few days later they asked them to prepare it according to their own provincial syllabus, then they copied and pasted the syllabus of Namaz.
A Twitter user raised the question, “Namaz syllabus again .” Why do you only want to benefit federal students?
A Twitter handle called My Rights said, “We can’t prepare the Namaz curriculum in a few days. You ask your children to do it. We reject it.” But why should you care because your children are studying at Oxford University. But we are the children of middle-class citizens.
Students reacted strongly to the announcement on their Facebook page.
One user, Amir Iqbal, said, “Now only the Supreme Court can guide the PMC in the right direction. Otherwise, Allah is the one who remembers this experience.
A user named Burhanuddin said, ‘Ineligible. Incompetent ministers and advisers in the current government are putting students’ futures at stake. You have the power of decision and not a good strategy. This incompetent government has not yet said what will happen to students who have already paid a fee of Rs 3,000 for the test. I curse this incompetent government.
Responding to the concerns of the students regarding the fees, PMC President Arshad Taqi said that since the students had submitted the fees to the provincial governments and institutions, the procedure and decision on its refund would be taken by the provincial governments.
“They will either refund the money to the students or adjust the admission fee further.” However, the decision will be made at the provincial level.
